SEYMOUR, Ind. — The Seymour Common Council has voted 4–1 to authorize a formal letter to former Councilman Jerry Hackney requesting his official written resignation from the District 2 council seat.
Hackney previously announced in the media that he no longer considers himself a member of the body. However, local election officials require formal written correspondence before his council seat can be officially declared vacant and then filled.
Council members emphasized the urgency of filling the seat to restore full representation for District 2 residents.
The drafted letter will be presented for review during an upcoming open council session prior to delivery.
