SEYMOUR, Ind. — The Seymour Common Council has officially approved the city’s civil budget appropriations and tax rates for fiscal year 2027 following its second reading.
The approved budget incorporates a general 4% across-the-board raise for municipal employees. The city advertised an initial tax rate of $1.8627 per $100 of assessed valuation to comply with state advertising guidelines. However, based on multi-year averages, city officials project the final state-approved rate will be $1.4198.
In tandem with the budget approval, council members passed the first reading of salary ordinances covering appointed officials, city staff, and elected officials for 2027. The employee salary ordinance includes target rate increases for three specific positions to bring them up to full-time livable wage standards.
The final readings and signatures for the remaining salary ordinances will take place at the next scheduled council meeting.
