Sanitary sewer smoke testing scheduled for Heritage Heights area

TAYLORSVILLE/COLUMBUS, Ind. - Bartholomew County Emergency Management has announced that beginning on or after April 20, Driftwood Utilities, in coordination with Heritage Heights, will conduct smoke testing on select portions of the sanitary sewer system within the Heritage Heights area.

The purpose of this testing is to identify sources of non-sanitary flow entering the sewer system, which can impact overall system performance.

Residents in the Heritage Heights area may notice smoke coming from vent pipes, the ground, or other locations during the testing period. This smoke is non-toxic, non-staining, and safe, and is commonly used as an effective method to locate potential issues within the system.

Door tags will be distributed to notify residents located within the testing area in advance of the work.

Driftwood Utilities and Bartholomew County Emergency Management encourage residents to be aware of the testing and understand that the presence of smoke during this process is normal and not a cause for concern.
