NORTH VERNON, Ind. - The City of North Vernon announced Thursday, August 6, that residents should be aware of a railroad maintenance project being completed by CSX Transportation.
City officials first learned of the project details from CSX late Wednesday evening after work was already underway. As a result, they were unable to provide advance notice to the public regarding the construction or the associated traffic impacts.
CSX said the project consists of leveling the railroad lines and tracks at the Madison Avenue, 5th Street, 9th Street, and Brownstown Road crossings. The work is expected to be completed within the next couple of days.
The project may cause temporary delays and inconvenience for motorists and nearby residents.
A City of North Vernon spokesperson stated, "We appreciate your patience while this maintenance is completed. If additional information becomes available, we will share updates. We apologize for the inconvenience."
