GREENWOOD, Ind.— The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) has earned an "ISO Class 1 Public Protection Classification" (PPC) rating, placing the department among the highest-rated fire protection organizations in the country.
The ISO Public Protection Classification evaluates a community's fire protection capabilities across several areas, including fire department operations, staffing, training, equipment, emergency communications, water supply, and overall fire protection infrastructure. To receive a Class 1 rating, an organization must demonstrate excellence across these critical areas.
“This achievement is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our entire organization,” said Greenwood Fire Chief Jayme Washel. “A Class 1 rating does not happen because of one person or one division. It is the result of firefighters, officers, dispatchers, support personnel, city leadership, and community partners working together with a common commitment to providing the highest level of service possible.”
The rating also recognizes the community's investment in fire protection. GFD's ability to maintain highly trained personnel, modern equipment, reliable emergency communications, effective water-supply infrastructure, and comprehensive operational capabilities contributed to the department's success.
