NORTH VERNON, Ind. — A North Vernon man is dead following a golf cart accident on Saturday evening, September 26.
At around 6:45 p.m., the North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) was dispatched to North Jennings Street regarding a single-vehicle accident involving a golf cart.
Officers located two individuals. The driver reported that he had swerved to avoid a pothole in the roadway, and the passenger, Christopher Johnson, of North Vernon, fell out and sustained a severe head injury.
NVPD provided emergency medical aid, including CPR, until Jennings County EMS and the North Vernon Fire Department arrived and continued lifesaving efforts.
Due to the severity of Johnson's injuries, a medical helicopter was requested. The victim was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital to meet the medical flight crew, but he died there before being transported by helicopter.
The driver submitted to chemical testing as part of the ongoing investigation. No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation remains ongoing pending toxicology results.
