COLUMBUS, Ind. - The City of Columbus invites residents to take part in a public survey about the use of e-bikes and other micromobility devices on city streets, bike lanes, sidewalks, and The People Trail.

In recent months, the city has received numerous reports of individuals dangerously operating e-bikes on shared-use paths and other public areas.

In response, the city administration has been working diligently to draft an ordinance that addresses community concerns while supporting safe, accessible transportation options.

“Public input is essential as we work to shape policies that promote safety and ensure everyone can enjoy our trails and public spaces,” said Eric Frey, executive director of administration for the City of Columbus.

Indiana law currently allows Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes, as well as other micromobility devices, on People Trails and shared-use paths. The survey will help officials assess how the devices can be used and adjustments to consider for a future ordinance.

The survey is available at columbus.in.gov and on other social media platforms. Community members are encouraged to participate and share their perspectives.
