Columbus man sentenced to 7 years for Domestic Battery, Attempted Obstruction of Justice

COLUMBUS, Ind. - At a sentencing hearing on July 1, Judge James Worton of the Bartholomew County Superior Court 1 ordered Joshua McKinsey, of Columbus, to serve seven years in the Indiana Department of Correction. He had pleaded guilty on June 1.

He was convicted of Attempted Obstruction of Justice (Level 5 felony) and Domestic Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury (Level 6 felony).   

On January 26, 2026, officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to a domestic battery call at a residence in Columbus. They spoke with the victim, who stated he was shoveling snow in his driveway when he was attacked by the Defendant, Joshua McKinsey. The victim was also a witness in another criminal case in which Joshua McKinsey was the Defendant.   

On February 2, 2026, a warrant was issued for McKinsey's arrest. 

The convicted felon was sentenced to five (5) years for the Attempted Obstruction of Justice charge and two (2) years for the Domestic Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury charge.

Judge Worton ordered the Counts to run consecutively for an aggregate sentence of seven (7) years in the Indiana Department of Correction.
