Columbus erects banners downtown recognizing Revolutionary War soldiers

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The City of Columbus has installed 21 commemorative banners along Washington Street in downtown Columbus honoring Revolutionary War soldiers buried in Bartholomew County.

The banners are part of Celebrate 250, the city’s weeklong celebration of America’s 250th birthday taking place June 29-July 4.   

Each banner features the name of a Revolutionary War soldier who rests in Bartholomew County. Historical information for the banners was provided by the Joseph Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, whose research helped identify and verify the soldiers recognized in the display.   

The decorative flags serve as a visual reminder of the community’s connection to the nation’s earliest history and celebrate the local veterans who played a role in securing America’s independence.   

Celebrate 250 features six days of family‐friendly events, activities, and patriotic programming throughout Columbus, culminating on Independence Day. The banners will remain in place throughout the celebration.
