COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Columbus Police and Fire Departments, Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office, and the Indiana State Police participated in "Operation Safe Prom" at Columbus East High School on Thursday morning.

This event features a mock crash scene to show students the dangers of operating while intoxicated and to stress the importance of making good decisions at this year's prom.

Every year, officials, first responders, actors, and school staff produce "Operation Safe Prom" for high school juniors and seniors. It is meant to be as real a look as possible at the tragedy of a fatal drunk driving accident and serves as a reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving.

Students watched as the scene unfolded with first responders rushing in to provide medical care and investigate the crash.

All of the agencies involved hope everyone has a fun and safe prom weekend.
