Columbus City Administration proposes new staffing positions in 2027 Civilian Salary Ordinance

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Columbus City Council gave initial approval to the 2027 civilian salary ordinance during its Tuesday night meeting, paving the way for two new full-time municipal roles and a planning internship.

The proposed additions include a Recreation Fitness Coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department and an Assistant Mechanic for Public Works, who will assist with collaborative fleet maintenance across police, fire, transit, and utilities.

The city is also reinstating a Planning Intern role budgeted for 240 hours (0.12 FTE). The City administration noted that reductions in other part-time hours balanced the additions.

All full-time and part-time positions covered under the civilian ordinance are scheduled to receive a 3.5% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027.
