Columbus Area Arts Council opens a new Community Ceramics Studio

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Columbus Area Arts Council (CAAC) will celebrate the grand opening of Studio C, a new community ceramics space, on Wednesday, May 13, from 4 to 7 p.m., at 4760 Ray Boll Blvd., in Columbus. The event is free and open to the public.

It will feature a ribbon-cutting in partnership with the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, live demonstrations from Studio C Artist-in-Residence Abigail Moses and other local clay artists, a raffle, and light refreshments.   

Studio C is designed to lower the barrier to creative expression in Bartholomew County — a place where longtime makers and first-timers can sit down at a wheel, work with clay, and find community.   Programming launches alongside the grand opening with hands-on workshops.   

“Studio C was created as a welcoming place for people to unplug, work with their hands, and experience the joy of creating something,” said CAAC Executive Director Brooke Hawkins.   

Studio C will continue to add classes and workshops throughout the year, including handbuilding, wheel throwing, and mixed media approaches to clay. Offerings will range from beginner to intermediate skill levels and will be scheduled on a variety of days to make participation accessible. 

The new studio was made possible through the generous support of the Heritage Fund, City of Columbus, Victoria Griffin and Chris Raskob, Elwood Staffing Services, Jay Lahee, and the many supporters who contributed to the Studio C Fund A Need at Uncommon Cause.
