SCOTT COUNTY, Ind. – A pursuit of a stolen vehicle crossed county lines on Monday afternoon and ended in a crash involving two other vehicles, sending two individuals to the hospital.
Indiana State Police (ISP) received a call about a Honda speeding on southbound Interstate 65, weaving from lane to lane. After checking the license plate, it was determined the car had been stolen from Illinois.
A Crothersville police officer tried to pull over the car near the 40-mile marker, but it continued leading police on a high-speed chase. ISP troopers and Jackson County deputies soon joined the pursuit as the vehicle reportedly reached speeds close to 140 mph.
The driver led law enforcement into Scott County where the chase ended after the vehicle collided with a semitractor-trailer and another car. The suspect’s car came to a rest on the west side of the interstate.
Authorities say two occupants took off on foot but were apprehended. A third occupant had to be extracted from the car and was taken to the University of Louisville (U of L) Hospital. All three suspects are reported to be juveniles from Illinois. The two who fled were transported to the Clark County Youth Detention Center.
The operator of the semi-trailer refused treatment at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle that was hit was taken to the U of L Hospital but later released.
I-65 remained closed for about five hours, until approximately 10 p.m., while the crash was investigated and collision workers cleaned the area.
