SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Police Department (SPD) responded to the O’Brien Street and Reliance Avenue area on Tuesday, at around 10:45 p.m., about a female being struck by a CSX locomotive.
When officers arrived, they found a female victim, Terre Newport, 62, of Seymour, who had sustained injuries to her head, right arm, and right leg. She was provided medical care by Jackson County EMS, SPD officers, and the Seymour Fire Department.
According to the train conductor, Newport was lying on the tracks and the train’s horn was used to alert her. She reportedly raised up and then laid back down. When she finally realized the locomotive was coming, she got up and tried to get out of the way, but was struck by the locomotive.
Newport was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of her injuries. It is not known why the woman was on the tracks. Her condition has not been released.
