NORTH VERNON, Ind. – Jennings County Dispatch received a 911 call on Thursday, March 7, at 3 p.m., from a concerned citizen who reported stumbling across human remains, in a densely wooded area in Campbell Township.
Deputies and detectives from the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded and were directed to the location by the caller.
Law enforcement officials confirmed the presence of human remains. Subsequent evidence collected at the location positively identified the deceased as Johnathon Walls, 37, of North Vernon, who had been reported missing by family members in August 2023.
Following a comprehensive investigation conducted by the JCSO, Indiana State Police, and the Jennings County Coroner’s Office, the cause of the man’s death was determined to be suicide.
