COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) is kicking off its fundraising season with the annual Firemen’s Cheer Fund Chili Cook-Off on Friday, November 3. This year you will have two chances to fill your belly and help the cause.
New in 2023 is a Chili Cook-Off Lunch at Forge on Fourth, 418 Fourth St., in downtown Columbus, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You could also attend the traditional evening drive-thru at Columbus Fire Department Station #1, 1101 Washington St. from 5 to 8 p.m., or until the chili is gone.
At both events, cash or check will be accepted as a donation for CFD Cheer Fund efforts.
The Firemen’s Cheer Fund was founded by the Columbus Fire Department in 1930 when some caring firemen realized that poor children probably see few if any, gifts under a Christmas tree. Almost 100 years later, firefighters and volunteers are still collecting toys, gifts, and monetary donations and then delivering the presents to less fortunate kids in mid-December.
