FRANKLIN, Ind. – Emergency repairs to the structural integrity of Franklin’s Historic Artcraft Theatre are now complete with plans to open for business beginning this Thursday, May 4. The building is once again safe to host public events after it was reviewed by Arsee Engineers, a spokesman for the theater announced.
Following the storm damage on March 31, the 100-year-old theater was forced to pause operations and focus on repairs to the fly loft – the area over the stage.
Reopening the classic movie series is a four-show run of “Arsenic and Old Lace”– the 1944 Frank Capra-directed dark comedy starring Cary Grant and Priscilla Lane. The film will screen to the public at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., on Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6. A free senior showing, sponsored by Astral at Franklin and Swartz Family Community Mortuary, is set for Thursday, May 4, at 1:30 p.m., and is open to anyone over 55.
Scaffolding will remain in place to focus on non-structural masonry maintenance and exterior tuckpointing. The cosmetic damage received to the front of the theater is awaiting completion.
