COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) confiscated a gun found on a convicted felon during a traffic stop early Monday morning.
Deputies pulled over a car for having an inoperable headlight near the 72.5-mile marker on I-65. The car, being driven by Kyle Wright, 24, of Indianapolis, smelled of marijuana, according to law enforcement. Police saw a green leafy substance in the vehicle. The suspect told deputies that there was a handgun in between the driver’s seat and center console, according to BCSO.
Officers searched the vehicle, allegedly finding a loaded Taurus 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun within reach of the driver’s seat and a small amount of pot. Wright was later found to have a prior felony conviction for intimidation out of Hendricks County, for which he was still on probation. The suspect supposedly told deputies he was aware he was on probation and shouldn’t have the gun, but he was carrying it due to a recent road rage incident.
He was arrested and jailed for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana.
