COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) is investigating a Thursday morning crash involving a moped and an automobile on S.R. 11 that injured a Bartholomew County man.
Officers responded to the accident in the 800 block of State Road 11 (Jonesville Road) at around 8 a.m.
The moped operator, Ricky D. Stevens, 37, of Columbus, was seriously hurt and transported by medical helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment, according to CPD Public Relations Officer Lt. Matt Harris. The driver of the car, Kennedy L. Engelau, 21, of Seymour, was not injured.
The crash closed State Road 11, between the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds and the new State Road 46 overpass for almost three hours. The accident remains under investigation, per law enforcement.
