COLUMBUS, Ind. – The spirit of giving is being celebrated during August, Black Philanthropy Month, with the return of the “Soul of Philanthropy” exhibit to The Commons.
The showing focuses on the philanthropic efforts of the local African American community and honors more than 20 individuals, ranging from some of the earliest African American residents to the youngest activists of today. An electronic slide show highlights the work of many others.
The month-long display is in the lobby near the “Chaos” sculpture. The local “Soul of Philanthropy” exhibit is part of a national effort recognizing August as Black Philanthropy Month, which Mayor Jim Lienhoop designated in 2019 by presenting a proclamation to the African American Fund of Bartholomew County.
