COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Redevelopment Commission approved funding for the remaining balance due to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for the city’s share of the cost of the railroad overpass project. The payment amount is $4.6 million.
The original agreement between INDOT and the city, which calls for a 50/50 cost-sharing arrangement, was for an expenditure of $30 million. However, increased construction costs for the project have raised the total to $35 million, and officials say the additional funds will come from the central TIF allocation area funding. The final payment is due on December 1.
In other business, redevelopment director Heather Pope reported the downtown hotel and conference center project has received three proposals. The three firms that submitted their plans will be in town on Thursday, October 3, for on-site interviews. Pope also said the city is still waiting for the Louisville & Indianapolis Railroad to respond about cost estimates on its work regarding the quiet zones at five downtown railroad crossings.
