EDINBURGH, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) took one man into custody after he allegedly raped a woman at a gas station near Johnson County hospital on Sunday, August 17.
At approximately 3:22 AM deputies responded to an alleged rape that occurred at a gas station in 13000 blk of N US 31. Staff from Johnson County Memorial Hospital had notified dispatch that the alleged victim, a female from Edinburgh, IN had come to the hospital for treatment.
Based on the preliminary information provided deputies identified the suspect as Varinderpal Singh 24 years old of Edinburgh, IN the attendant at the gas station. A detective from the Sheriff’s Office traveled to Johnson County Memorial Hospital to meet with the victim. She advised that the assault which resulted in injuries occurred inside the station.
Singh was booked in the jail on the charge of Rape and remains in custody on a 72 hour hold.
This is a preliminary investigation. All persons are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
