GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) was dispatched to the 400 block of San Marcos Drive in Greenwood on Sunday, May 18, at 2:15 a.m.
Upon arrival, deputies determined that three juveniles were victims of an armed robbery. The investigation revealed that two of the juveniles had supposedly arranged to meet an individual, known to one of them from a previous encounter, to purchase illegal narcotics. The meeting was around the corner from one juvenile’s home, explaining their presence on San Marcos Drive.
Two of the teenagers entered a vehicle occupied by the suspected dealer and another adult male. Once inside, both suspects brandished firearms and proceeded to rob the juveniles. One of the suspects, described as a black male, allegedly physically assaulted one of the juveniles by punching him in the face and forcibly taking his property.
Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives immediately began a search for the suspects. Their investigation led them to a residence on the west side of Indianapolis, near Morris Street. With the assistance of IMPD, after securing the appropriate search warrants, detectives searched the home and found both suspects, along with the reported weapons used during the robbery.
Arrested were:
- Joseph A. Goodwin, 20, of 5106 Cassandra Lane, Apartment G, Indianapolis
- Charges: Robbery, Battery, and Theft
- Currently held in the Johnson County Jail
- Cooper Nelson, 20, of 3110 Arrowroot Lane, Indianapolis
- Charges: Robbery and Theft
- Currently held in the Johnson County Jail
Sheriff Duane E. Burgess commented, “These juveniles are incredibly lucky this situation didn’t end in tragedy. With the rising number of homicides and gun-related incidents occurring just north of Johnson County, we must remain vigilant. This kind of behavior is unacceptable in our community. We are committed to enforcing all laws, not just selective ones, to protect our residents.”
JCSO worked closely with the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office to ensure a thorough investigation and a strong case. Information will be forwarded to the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office for review and formal charges.
