COLUMBUS/FRANKLIN, Ind. – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for south-central Indiana on Friday. It is in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for Bartholomew, Johnson, Jackson, Jennings, Decatur, Shelby, and Brown Counties.
Snow will begin Friday morning across central Indiana and then spread south and east into the afternoon with a widespread 2 to 4 inches anticipated.
A few bands of heavier snow will develop Friday afternoon, most likely near the I-70 corridor. The snow will then move south toward Franklin, Columbus, Seymour, North Vernon, Greensburg, and Nashville. Higher amounts near five inches are possible in some locations.
The snow may impact the late afternoon commute. Use caution while driving. Be prepared for lower visibilities and slick roadways…especially where heavier snow falls. Cold temperatures Friday night could cause lingering water on roads to freeze.
This is a developing situation and NWS says there could be changes in amounts and locations.
