FRANKLIN, Ind – Energizer Holdings Inc., at 180 Bartram Parkway in the Franklin Tech Park, says it is scheduled to conclude operations in April. The result means that 64 local employees will be laid off, as indicated in a notice adhering to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
In October of 2023, the Franklin Energizer Plant announced job cuts with the closure of packaging operations. Despite the downsizing, company officials at that time assured that the Franklin location would “continue to serve as the central distribution center for our U.S. battery and lights business.”
Energizer, based in St. Louis, is known for producing batteries under the brand names Energizer, Rayovac, Varta, and Eveready. It’s history dates back to 1896 when the predecessor company, American Electrical Novelty & Manufacturing Co., was founded.
The Indianapolis Business Journal previously reported that Energizer’s goal was to employ 440 people at the Franklin site by 2022, following the unveiling of the $62.7 million packaging and distribution facility in 2019. At that time, Energizer expressed a commitment to remain in Franklin for at least 15 years.
