GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) was dispatched Wednesday morning to ‘County Line Self Storage, at 1485 W. County Line Rd., for a reported structure fire.
GFD’s Engine 92 arrived at around 6:15 a.m. and reported flames coming from a storage unit with a car involved. After about 45 minutes, the fire was marked under control. A little over an hour later, firefighters were able to confirm that the blaze was completely extinguished.
At least six storage units were affected by the fire. GFD and Greenwood Police investigators are trying to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Thus far, these circumstances are still under investigation.
A man who rents one of the units told paramedics that he had been living in his storage unit on and off for some time. It is unclear if he was living there at the time of the fire. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition with suspected inhalation burns and several burns to his body.
A Greenwood firefighter was also hurt and has been treated and released by Franciscan Health medical staff. The injured firefighter will be on light duty until recovery is complete.
