SEYMOUR, Ind. – A two-vehicle accident on Christmas Eve was fatal to a Jackson County man.
The Seymour Police Department (SPD) was dispatched to the intersection of Tipton Street and Community Drive, on Sunday at around 3:30 p.m., for a wreck in which a motorcycle collided with another vehicle.
When first responders arrived, they found the driver of the motorcycle, Thomas Jones, 44, of Seymour, unresponsive. Jones was transported to Schneck Medical Center via EMS where he was later pronounced deceased.
The initial investigation by SPD crash reconstructionists indicated that the accident occurred when the motorcycle was traveling west on Tipton Street and an SUV, driven by Debra Spurgeon of Seymour, turned south from Tipton Street toward the Jay C Food Store parking lot.
Spurgeon submitted to a blood test. Toxicology results are pending at this time, but alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor.
The intersection remained closed for about two hours.
