COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) says an unattended candle caused the Wednesday morning fire at a mobile home in Candlelight Village.
One adult and seven children were able to get out safely and firefighters were able to contain the blaze to a single room, per CFD’s Capt. Mike Wilson. Damages are estimated at $25,000. There were no working fire alarms at the residence.
CFD reiterated that every home should have at least one working smoke alarm. The fire department provides no-cost smoke alarm installations for Columbus residents in need of working smoke alarms.
