INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has named Brown County as one of six Clean Communities in the state.
From April 2021–November 2023, Brown County and five other municipalities were pilot participants in the program that replaced the Indiana Clean Community Challenge.
“Keep Brown County Beautiful,” comprised of a retired Soil and Water Conservation District manager, a Solid Waste Management District (SWMD) director, and environmentally interested citizens, served as the county’s Clean Team. The Town of Nashville also has a representative on the Clean Team.
Project highlights include no-charge dumpster days, which resulted in collecting over 33 tons of bulk items of which residents would typically have had difficulty disposing. Brown County also hosts community Tox-Away Events through the SWMD.
