FRANKLIN, Ind. — Franklin College announced Friday that it has been selected for a $79,508 grant from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education as part of its 2023 College Success Program.
The funding must be used to build and enhance new staffing capacity to support a priority student population. Franklin College has selected 21st Century Scholars as its student priority population. In addition to developing structured programming specific to 21st Century Scholars, the college will hire a College Success Coach to serve as a resource to the Scholars.
The goal is to increase student retention and success by providing programming and direct support, in addition to connecting students to various on-campus resources, information, and services to assist them in completing their degrees.
“We are very grateful to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education for its support,” said Franklin College President Kerry N. Prather. “Franklin has been recognized nationally for enabling social mobility, especially for first-generation students. This grant allows us to expand and improve our support system for this cohort of students, helping ensure their academic success and ultimate graduation.”
Created in 1971, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education plans, coordinates, and defines Indiana’s postsecondary education system to align higher learning with the needs of students and the state. The Commission also administers Indiana’s financial aid programs, including the 21st Century Scholars Early College Promise scholarship.
