COLUMBUS, Ind. – The City of Columbus has announced that the Department of Public Works will begin its fall sweeping and loose leaf programs on Monday, October 16. Fall sweeping will end on December 7 and the last day for loose leaf pickup will be December 15.
The city asks that you visit www.columbus.in.gov/public-works/ for the full schedule for fall sweeping, or call with questions at 812-376-2509.
Residential loose leaves will be collected curbside on the same day as your trash collection. Leaves need to be curbside by 7 a.m. Do not place leaves in the street as they clog the storm drains when it rains, causing flooding of the streets.
Leaves will not be collected if they are in bags. If you choose to bag your yard waste material, you may bring it to the compost site located at 720 S. Mapleton St., next door to the Department of Public Works, and dump out your bags. Your bags are then reusable.
