COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) arrested two local men after a vehicle and foot chase on Wednesday night.
Deputies, at around 7:30 p.m., tried to pull over a car they thought was occupied by someone with outstanding warrants. Once police emergency lights were activated, authorities say the suspect car sped away.
The driver, Nicholas Shutters, 27, of Columbus, drove through residential yards and crashed into a fence. He and his passenger Charles Barr Jr., 44, of Columbus, then fled on foot but were soon apprehended.
Shutters was taken to Columbus Regional Health after he allegedly ingested methamphetamine during the incident. He was admitted for further medical treatment however he remains in custody.
Shutters was arrested for Bartholomew/Jackson County warrants, resisting law enforcement, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, obstruction of justice, reckless driving, and possession of meth.
Barr was charged with resisting law enforcement. He has been released after posting bail, according to BCSO.
