COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested a Jennings County man on several charges Wednesday evening after a stolen rifle was found in his car during a traffic stop.
Law enforcement pulled over a vehicle driven by Jesse D. Taylor, 37, of Scipio, near Second and California Streets, just before 6 p.m. They observed an “AR 15 style” rifle in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, according to CPD.
Police secured the weapon and determined a short time later that it had been reported stolen from Jennings County. Officers also learned that Taylor was prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions for armed robbery and domestic battery.
The suspect was placed under arrest, transported to Bartholomew County Jail, and preliminarily charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted serious violent felon, possession of a firearm by a convicted domestic batterer, theft of a firearm, and possession of marijuana.
