AMITY, Ind. – UPDATE: The two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 that took the lives of a Bartholomew County woman and a Marion County man on Monday evening was determined to be a head-on collision, according to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office investigators.
Authorities say witnesses at the scene told them they saw a blue Jeep Commander, driven by Olivia Humes, 30, of Columbus, traveling south in the northbound lanes of U.S. 31 when her vehicle struck a Krispy Kreme truck operated by Charles Cobb, 42, of Indianapolis. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, investigators are unclear why the Jeep was going in the wrong direction, according to their report.
Original: The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded Monday night to a serious motor vehicle accident on U.S. 31, approximately one mile north of State Road 252 between Edinburgh and Franklin. The call came at about 9:20 pm.
When deputies arrived they found that two vehicles were involved in the crash. The accident was contained to the northbound lanes of U.S. 31, although both northbound and southbound lanes were closed for a period of time so that the crash could be investigated.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. No names were released pending identification by the Johnson County Coroner’s Office and family notification.
Other responding emergency agencies included the Amity Fire Department, Edinburgh Police Department, Edinburgh Fire Department, and Bargersville Fire Department EMS.
No other information is being released until the fatal accident investigation has been completed by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
