CLARK COUNTY – The Indiana State Police (ISP) is still investigating a fatal crash involving a semi-truck and pedestrian on I-65 late last week. On Monday, authorities released the name of the victim attempting to cross the expressway as Larry W. Caudill, 62, of Austin.
Emergency units responded to I-65 in Clark County at around 8:30 p.m. last Thursday. ISP troopers and crash scene investigators preliminarily believe that a male pedestrian was attempting to run west across the southbound lanes when a semi-truck struck him. The driver immediately stopped and contacted authorities. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Law enforcement does not believe Caudill was a stranded motorist and is unsure why he was crossing the interstate on foot. Alcohol or drug use is a factor regarding the semi-truck driver.
The accident remains under investigation.
