COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded to a fire at the Dorel Juvenile Group, 2525 State St., just after 5 p.m. on Monday. Crews arrived to find that an evacuation of the building was in progress.
Dorel employees advised firefighters that a lithium-ion battery had begun to smoke in the interior of the building.
Fire crews found a lot of smoke within the facility and located the area where the lithium-ion battery was stored. They said the fire had been extinguished by the sprinkler system before they reached the area. Firefighters discovered two other lithium-ion batteries and removed all three from the building.
Ventilation fans were set up to aid in smoke removal. There was minor cosmetic damage to one wall, but no structural problems. Water damage from the sprinkler system was more significant.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported, according to CFD.
