INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana DNR Forestry Division of Forestry and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service have awarded 80 rural and volunteer fire departments from 50 Hoosier counties more than $351,000 in Volunteer Fire Assistance grants.
The awards, announced Tuesday, will be used for training, installation of dry hydrants, or purchasing firefighting equipment and gear to combat wildland fires.
Recipients were selected based on population density, acres of public lands protected, and wildland fire reporting to DNR Fire Control Headquarters. The grants range from $1,250 to $5,000.
The local fire agencies receiving the 2022 grants, their counties, and the amount awarded are:
- Southwest Bartholomew Volunteer Fire Department $5000
- Brown County Volunteer Fire Department $1612
- Hamilton Twp. Volunteer Fire Department (Jackson) $5000
- Owen Twp. Volunteer Fire Department (Jackson) $5000
- Campbell Twp. Volunteer Fire Department (Jennings) $1250
- Vernon Twp. Volunteer Fire Department (Jennings) $5000
