INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana health officials are encouraging Hoosiers to get vaccinated against influenza after the first confirmed flu-related death of the 2022-23 flu season.
Hundreds of Indiana residents become sick from influenza each year, and some cases prove fatal. In the 2021-22 flu season, 82 Hoosiers died after contracting influenza.
The CDC recommends that everyone six months and older receive a flu vaccine. Because infants younger than six months can not be vaccinated, it is essential that household members where a young baby lives get a flu shot to protect the child.
Healthcare workers should also be vaccinated to reduce their risk of transmitting illness to patients.
