NORTH VERNON, Ind. – A Jennings County man died Friday evening after his motorcycle struck a vehicle that was stopped in traffic, according to the North Vernon Police Department (NVPD). Officers were dispatched to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 50 and State Road 3, just before 7 p.m.
The initial investigation determined that a motorcycle operated by Gerald Andrew Branam, 35, of North Vernon, was traveling west on US 50 toward State Road 3. He tried to stop, but he collided with the back of a stationary Jeep operated by Steven P. Neal, 44, of North Vernon. Branam was reported to have been thrown from his motorcycle and received life-threatening injuries.
Bystanders were quick to begin life-saving measures until first responders arrived. The motorcyclist was taken to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Neal was not hurt.
NVPD says the investigation is ongoing. The intersection had a reduced traffic pattern and multiple complete closures over the next 2 ½ hours.
