SEYMOUR, Ind. – A Franklin man was taken into custody after thousands of dollars of electrical wire were stolen from a Seymour-area Home Depot. Detectives arrested Evan Marcus Patton, 31, of Franklin, for felony theft.
On May 23, Seymour Police Department investigators received information from Home Depot that a theft had occurred on May 21. It involved numerous rolls of electrical wire valued at over $4,000.
Police were able to identify the vehicle in which the suspect loaded the wire. Detectives then contacted its owner, who was a driver for Lyft. The Lyft driver told investigators that they picked up a male in Greenwood, and transported him to the Home Depot in Seymour where he obtained the wire. The driver then took the man to a location in Franklin.
On May 24, law enforcement went to the 2500 block South of US 31 in Franklin and located the suspect. Patton told investigators that he just swapped the wire out and did not take it, information that contradicted evidence investigators say they gathered. About $2,100, money investigators believe to be proceeds from the theft, was also allegedly found on Patton’s person and seized.
The suspect was transported to the Jackson County Jail for processing.
