EDINBURGH, Ind. – If you thought you heard more sirens and saw more emergency vehicles than normal in Edinburgh on Wednesday, there is a reason. The Edinburgh Police Department, Edinburgh Fire and Rescue, and the Johnson County Coroners’ Office partnered with Edinburgh High School for a prom crash re-enactment.
Four Edinburgh High School Students volunteered to be accident victims. One of the students played the role of an impaired driver and another student was a passenger pronounced deceased at the scene. A member of the Edinburgh High School staff, Sherri Sweet, acted as the distraught deceased juvenile’s mother.
Edinburgh Police Chief Doyne Little said, “It was somber to see this re-enactment crash and the reactions on some of the students’ faces. We hope that presenting this event prevents students who might be impaired from getting behind the wheel and thus, save lives.”
