NORTH VERNON, Ind. – During a Thursday traffic stop last week, the North Vernon Police Department busted two Marion County residents for drugs and other charges.
After seeing a car commit a violation at State Road 7 and U.S. 50, officers pulled it over. The vehicle had also been reported earlier as driving recklessly.
The driver, Joseph Swinehart, 32, of Indianapolis, originally gave a false name. After K9 Zobi alerted to the odor of narcotics, police searched the car and allegedly found illegal drugs, drug-related items, and a concealed and loaded handgun. After Swinehart’s true identity was verified, officers learned he had an outstanding warrant.
NVPD took the man into custody for being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a gun without a permit, identity deception, possession of a controlled substance, and several other drug charges.
His passenger, Carolyn Norman, 36, of Indianapolis, was booked for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a handgun without a permit, visiting a common nuisance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
