GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office Tuesday filed three child seduction charges against a Greenwood High School teacher, Matthew Hockersmith, 40, of Greenwood, in connection with allegations of an inappropriate relationship with one of his students.
On December 7, the Greenwood Police Department was contacted about the possible inappropriate relationship between the teacher and a female student. Detectives talked with the juvenile female and her parents about the existence and nature of a relationship with Hockersmith.
Investigators then went to the high school to interview the teacher, who reportedly agreed to speak with them. Based on information gained during both interviews, detectives arrested Hockersmith and took him to Johnson County Jail. He later posted bond and was released, pending a court date for formal charges.
“Keeping children safe from adults who would seek to exploit the nature of the relationship they have with those children is something my office takes seriously. I appreciate the swift action of Greenwood police and the high school getting this matter to us,” said Johnson County prosecutor Joe Villanueva.
