FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin Police Department announced Monday that K9 Pepper passed away over the weekend. In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 21, K9 Pepper was found to be unresponsive. An autopsy was performed at Purdue University, the results of which are still pending.
K9 Pepper was a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois born in the Netherlands in February 2014. The police dog began serving at the Franklin Police Department in November 2015 and had an amazing career alongside her two partners, officers Jesse Brown and Jeffrey Dawe. The K9 was responsible for a substantial amount of narcotics detections, area searches, and tracking events.
Officer Brown said, “I am thankful and blessed to have had Pepper as a dedicated Partner.” Chief Kirby Cochran added, “K9 Pepper will be missed by all and remembered as an FPD Officer. Keep Officer Brown and Dawe and their families in your thoughts and prayers.”
