WALESBORO, Ind. – A Tennessee man was taken into custody on Tuesday evening after leading police on a 10-mile chase through Jackson and Bartholomew Counties.
The incident began at around 6 p.m. when the Indiana State Police (ISP) received a report that a car was entering Jackson County and driving erratically on northbound I-65. ISP said several callers reported that the vehicle was weaving on the road and erratically changing speeds.
Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office located the car near the 50-mile marker at Seymour. Law enforcement learned that the vehicle was being driven by Matthew Murphy, 31, of Chattanooga.
Troopers pursued Murphy at speeds up to 75 mph into Bartholomew County. The suspect reportedly tried to avoid tire deflation devices before coming to a stop just north of exit 64, near Columbus.
The northbound lanes of I-65 were closed for approximately one hour while the scene was cleared.
Murphy was booked for resisting law enforcement, operating while intoxicated, and reckless driving.
