CROTHERSVILLE, Ind. – The Indiana State Police (ISP) was called to a Sunday afternoon single-car accident, on I-65 in southern Jackson County. Two juveniles were ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.
According to the initial investigation, an SUV, being driven by Kayla C. Irish, 32, of Lakeland, Florida, was traveling north near the 36-mile marker, at the Crothersville exit. For an unknown reason, she lost control of the vehicle, it struck a guardrail, and overturned. The SUV rolled before crashing into a concrete barrier wall and coming to rest.
During the collision, two juveniles, a nine-year-old female and a five-year-old male, were ejected from the vehicle. Irish and the female juvenile sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to Louisville area hospitals. The five-year-old, along with a 12-year-old male juvenile, were transported by ground ambulance to a Louisville hospital. ISP says four other occupants declined medical attention.
The investigation continues. Toxicology results are pending, but alcohol and drugs are not suspected.
