COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department (BCSO), along with the Columbus Police Department, Indiana State Police, and the Bartholomew Co. Coroner’s Office discovered suspected human remains on Thursday in a shallow grave just off of County Road 400N, between U.S. 31 and River Road.
The remains were removed from the location and turned over to the coroner’s office for further investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, at 2 p.m., to determine the identification and the cause of death.
The location of the remains came about during a missing person’s case. BCSO detectives and other agencies continue to investigate. C.R. 400N, between River Road and U.S. 31, was closed for several hours Thursday while the scene was processed.
Sheriff Matt Myers praised and thanked all of the police agencies that assisted and stated, “Being able to use resources from other law enforcement agencies is key to the future of law enforcement, and it is a big win for the communities these agencies serve.”
