COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) is reminding the public of the importance of locking vehicle doors after receiving several reports of thefts from cars during the month of August.
Last month, CPD received 35 reports of thefts from vehicles. In 22 of the theft cases, the car was reportedly left unlocked. Three firearms were stolen from unlocked vehicles during the month of August.
“The community can help us reduce crime in Columbus by removing valuables and locking their cars when they are not being used. Please make sure firearms are properly secured so that they do not end up back on our streets in the hands of criminals,” said Lt. Matt Harris, Public Relations Officer for the Columbus Police Department.
