JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana State Police (ISP) troopers say a three-vehicle accident early Saturday morning, on State Road 7 in northern Jefferson County, resulted in the death of a motorcycle passenger.
The initial investigation by the ISP Crash Reconstruction Team indicated that at around 12:30 a.m., a motorcycle, being driven by Jason K. Mace, 39, of Seymour, was heading north on State Road 7 near the Jefferson/Jennings County line when for an unknown reason he lost control of the motorcycle. It overturned, throwing Mace and his passenger, Emma Kiefer, 34, of Seymour, from the vehicle.
Two northbound vehicles, a car driven by Andrew Downs, 38, and an SUV driven by Danielle Newton, 29, both of North Vernon, then struck the crash scene.
Mace was seriously injured and was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. Kiefer was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
The drivers of the other vehicles were uninjured in the collision. State Road 7 was closed for approximately five hours for crash investigation and cleanup. ISP says the investigation is ongoing.
