COLUMBUS, Ind. – A man and woman are in custody on several drug-related charges after their vehicle was pulled over for a minor traffic violation early Tuesday morning.
The Columbus Police Department (CPD) initiated a traffic stop, near Eighth and Sycamore Streets, at around 1 a.m. Officers questioned the operator, Makaelin Wilks, 28, and discovered that his driver’s license was suspended and he had an outstanding Jackson County warrant. The passenger was identified as Lisa Bryant, 53.
A CPD K9 was summoned and it reportedly alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the car. Law enforcement allegedly found methamphetamine, pills, a Suboxone strip, and a glass pipe.
Both were arrested and taken to Bartholomew County Jail. While at the jail, police say that concealed in Bryant’s clothing, they located two small bags that tested positive for fentanyl and meth.
Wilks was booked for operating without ever receiving a license with a previous conviction, driving while suspended, possession of paraphernalia, and a Jackson County warrant.
Bryant was charged with possession of a narcotic drug, possession of meth, possession of a legend drug, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia.
